Position:

Night Care Assistant

Responsible to:

Matron / Nurse In Charge/ Directors

Primary

Responsibilities
  • To provide wakeful night duty cover in the home.

  • To undertake certain domestic duties which can be performed during the night hours.

  • Carry out a regular check on residents at intervals determined by the Matron / Nurse in

  • Charge and with due regard for residents' privacy.

  • Carry out regular checks on the building with special reference to fire prevention and security at intervals determined by the Matron / Nurse in Charge

  • Be aware of fire procedures and all other relevant policies and protocols.

  • Answer emergency bells, assess the situation, deal with the resident seeking help or summon the senior care staff on call.

  • Assist residents who need help, reassurance, comfort or just a cup of tea.

  • Join with the day care staff in preparing residents for bed or assisting them in the morning, as directed.

  • In the time available between attending to residents undertake domestic duties primarily in the fields of laundry/ironing, food preparation, table laying or dusting/cleaning, as directed.

  • Report all accidents and incidents to Nurse in Charge.

  • Report to Nurse in Charge all changes in patients’ condition.

  • Staff may not accept gifts from patients or their relatives.

  • To have due regard for your own health and safety and of others. Report any hazards or potential hazards, accidents, and other untoward occurrences, faulty equipment etc. to the Nurse in charge and take any necessary steps to prevent injury.

  • Attend any reasonable tasks required of you by Nurse in charge or managers,ensuring all work is carried out in an organised and efficient manner, taking into account of the priorities of the Homes’ procedures.

  • To develop and maintain effective and working relationships with all members of staff.

  • Identify and develop your training needs. Advise the Manager of significant training needs.
