An inspiring rural setting

Hatchmoor is a secure, light and spacious building set in large peaceful gardens on the outskirts of Great Torrington in North Devon. The grounds are landscaped and zoned to include a sensory garden and vegetable plots for growing fresh produce. Residents are actively encouraged to tend their own plots. It is a great way of keeping active and can be very effective during rehabilitation.

Responsible building practices

The building employs many sustainable building techniques and is designed to have as little impact on local services and the environment as possible. Efficient under floor heating keeps the building at an even temperature all year and is provided by a boiler that turns our waste into heat. Fresh water is drawn from a bore hole and treated onsite, rainwater is harvested for toilet flushing and bath and shower water is recycled and used for maintaining the gardens. All food, paper and cardboard is recycled to be used on site whilst sewage provides methane for our heating and electricity requirements.
